Rockwell Automation and Microsoft have announced an extension of their long-standing relationship to accelerate the design and development of industrial automation through the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI). The two companies are combining technologies to empower staff and shorten time to market for customers building industrial automation systems. The first outcome of this collaboration will incorporate Microsoft's Azure OpenAI service into FactoryTalk® Design Studio™ to deliver industry-first capabilities that shorten time to market for customers building industrial automation systems.
“The lack of qualified personnel and the consequent loss of productivity constitute the greatest challenge facing industrial organizations and their service providers today. This lack increases the need, value and complexity of automation projects when the ecosystem of service providers is not able to deliver their services on time, at the right quality and within budget,” commented Matthew Littlefield, president of LNS. Research. “Generative AI has already demonstrated the ability to capture the imagination and improve worker productivity in a variety of IT and business scenarios. “The strategic partnership between Rockwell Automation and Microsoft is an exciting first step with great potential to overcome these long-term structural challenges.”
Rockwell and Microsoft recognize that using AI to improve automation around various roles, from decision makers to controls engineers and operators, is a key area where they can collaborate to help customers. to streamline your processes and increase staff productivity.
“The decade-long partnership between Rockwell and Microsoft demonstrates our ongoing commitment to delivering best-in-class solutions that empower customers and support our shared vision of advancing industries through innovation and collaboration,” said CEO Blake Moret. from Rockwell Automation. “Together we not only address current market needs, but shape the future of industrial automation technology.”
Incorporating Azure OpenAI Service into FactoryTalk Design Studio helps engineers generate code using plain language commands, automating routine tasks and improving design efficiency. It will also empower experienced engineers to accelerate development and guide new employees along a learning path more efficiently and effectively. Additionally, it will help identify relevant help from a wide range of information to further educate developers. Rockwell and Microsoft see a bright future in expanding this integrated technology to overcome other challenges, including quality management and improvement, failure mode analysis, and training frontline workers to execute processes. through chat-based collaboration with skilled human workers, as well as chatbots based on Azure Open AI Service.
“The explosive growth and interest around artificial intelligence is driving organizations to partner with Microsoft as a trusted cloud and AI provider,” said Judson Althoff, executive vice president and chief business officer, Microsoft. “I am pleased to continue to strengthen our long-standing relationship with Rockwell, combining their deep expertise in industrial automation with Microsoft's generative AI technology to help industrial professionals accelerate the creation of complex control systems, optimize the efficiency of their operations and foster greater innovation across industrial organizations.”
Additionally, Rockwell and Microsoft continue to explore ways to improve innovation in the industrial metaverse. The two companies leverage their respective IoT capabilities, cloud data sets, simulations and AIm to design and build products more effectively, efficiently and sustainably.
